What Do You Need to Know Before We Get Started?
Hi, I’m Josh, the owner of Conable Builders. I know how overwhelming it can feel when you’re trying to hire someone for your home. There’s a lot to figure out: pricing, permits, timelines, materials… and most contractors don’t slow down long enough to explain any of it.
We believe a good builder doesn’t just do great work, they make sure you understand what’s happening every step of the way. That’s how you stay in control, and how we earn your trust. Below, you’ll find honest answers to the questions homeowners ask us the most. And if there’s something you’re still wondering about, just reach out.
Frequently Asked Questions
It really depends on where you live. Some permits get approved in just a few weeks, while others, especially in places like Boulder, can take over a year.
We know that sounds like a lot, and that’s why we’ll never leave you guessing. We map out the full timeline at the start, based on your location, so you know exactly what to expect and when we can start building.
We don’t guess, we inspect. If the structure underneath is still solid, a few boards or railings might be all you need.
But if there’s deep rot, unsafe framing, or shifting footings, we’ll explain why a full replacement makes more sense. You’ll always know exactly what we’re seeing and why we’re recommending it.
Colorado’s weather is no joke: dry air, high sun, big swings. Composite decking like Trex holds up beautifully with less upkeep, while wood can require regular staining and care.
That said, if you’re a wood lover, we’ll help you choose the right species and finish to give it the best shot in our climate.
We treat every project like it’s going in our own backyard. That means tight cuts, code-compliant framing, thoughtful layout decisions, and clean finishes, right down to the borders on your deck boards.
We’re not just building for today, we’re building something that feels solid for years.
In Colorado, there’s no statewide contractor license; it’s all handled locally by each city or county. And getting that license? It only takes a short open-book test.
That’s why being “licensed and insured” isn’t a guarantee of skill or care. We go far beyond the basics, and we’re upfront about where we’re licensed so you’re never left in the dark.
Not at the moment, most of our clients have chosen to pay in full. But if financing would help you move forward, just let us know.
We can point you to local solutions or look into bringing it back if there’s enough interest. Our goal is to meet you where you are, not force a one-size-fits-all path.
We’re certified by Trex, Deckorators, and Trex RainEscape, which means we’ve been trained to install these systems right. We’re also a NADRA member (the deck industry’s national association) and a Google Guaranteed business.
You’re not just getting credentials, you’re getting proof that we’re committed to high standards and staying accountable.
